You are invited to a Public Lecture and CSO Dialogue on “Governance, Debt, and Accountability in Africa – Advancing the AU Model,” taking place on Monday, 25 August 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the NIPA Conference Centre, Lusaka.
The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Thomas Pogge of Yale University’s Global Justice Programme, architect of the AU Model Debt Governance Mechanism – a framework that calls for independent AU-level loan assessments to ensure transparency and alignment with development priorities. Organised in partnership with the CSO Debt Alliance and supported by GIZ Zambia, this dialogue brings together academia, civil society, and citizens to reflect on Africa’s debt crisis as a pressing governance and justice challenge and to chart pathways toward greater accountability and sustainable development.

This national dialogue will bring together government, civil society, traditional leaders, academia, and communities to reflect on climate change impacts, Zambia’s adaptation and mitigation strategies, climate finance, and the role of citizens in environmental stewardship. While physical attendance is strictly by invitation, those unable to join in person will have the opportunity to participate virtually through a Zoom link to be shared.
