The Faith and Justice Programme
The Faith and Justice Programme is the heart of JCTR’s organisational values, as it provides a faith-based approach to achieving social justice for all. The overall objective of the Programme is that Citizens and institutions are inspired by gospel values, effectively care for the environment, prudently utilize public resources, and promote social justice for all. It primarily relates to economic, social and cultural rights of all citizenry. The program operates and produces various publications such as JCTRs bulletin based on a set of values which include; human dignity, option for the poor, social justice, discernment, rootedness, simplicity and transparency.
In addition, the program wholeheartedly deals with all human rights and governance with particular interest of the most marginalised sections of society. Through research, advocacy, education and consultancy the program analyses public documents like the Public Order Act, make submissions to parliament as the starting point of advocacy.
Formation programs
This collection seeks to show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment and therefore forms the people through: Workshops, formation trainings using the Catholic Social Teaching (CST), the media as well as publication of education and scholarly materials. We sense that secular society today profoundly challenges the Church in its task of proclaiming the Gospel. As believers, we feel an urgent need to overcome both new secularisms and the nostalgia for cultural expressions of the past.
We resolve to collaborate with the Church in experiencing secular society as a sign of the times that affords us the opportunity to renew our presence in the heart of human history. Publications such as the JCTR's quarterly bulletin and the JCTR annual Liturgical calendar based on a set of values which include; human dignity, option for the poor, social justice, discernment, rootedness, simplicity and transparency are published for the public.
Governance
This collection seeks to give information on how JCTR advocates for good governance by promoting the Servant Leadership model and encouraging citizens to participate in Constitutional and Legal reforms. JCTR promotes Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) at Household level, Community and National level. Position Papers and Policy Briefs in response to problematic existential issues such as the Constitution, Public Order Law, and Access to Information among other things are published and Social Audits based on specialised research such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation for the previous year are conducted with the view of lobbying for speedy expedition of the same.
The Environment and Climate Change
Climate change has emerged as one of the most pressing issues in Zambia affecting socio-economic development. The country has over the past years experienced a number of climate related hazards including droughts and dry spells, seasonal and flash floods, and extreme temperatures. JCTR is a ministry of the Society of Jesus, which is part of the larger Roman Catholic Church. The Society of Jesus leadership has pronounced the need to collaborate in the care of our Common Home. In the encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis reminds us that all human beings share responsibility for care of creation, considered by many peoples “mother earth.” Study reports, statements, brochures, policy briefs etc are published to inform and educate the Zambian citizenry how the Environment if not taken care of affect socio-economic development in our country.
